Professor Jenny Hewison Biography
Professor Jenny Hewison, Deputy Chair, HTA Clinical Trials Board
Jenny Hewison is Professor of the Psychology of Healthcare at the University of Leeds, where she has worked since 1984. She was appointed to her current position in the School of Medicine in 2000.
After obtaining her first degree in natural sciences at the University of Cambridge, she completed an MSc in child development and then went on to achieve a PhD in psychology at the University of London. She worked there as a research officer before taking up the position of Psychology Lecturer at the University of Durham, then moving to the Health Care Research Unit at the University of Newcastle, working as a Senior Research Associate, before joining the University of Leeds.
She was an advisor on the HTA Commissioning Board from 1995 to 2006 before becoming Deputy Chair of the HTA Clinical Trials Board in 2006. Her main research interests are the psychological aspects of new health technologies, genetics and screening, quality of life in chronic illness and research methodology. She has conducted a number of research projects in these areas including investigations into anxiety associated with prenatal diagnostic testing, continuity of care in stroke and a trial into early screening for foetal abnormality.
