Professor Jon Nicholl Biography
Professor Jon Nicholl, Deputy Director HTA programme, and Chair, HTA Commissioning and Clinical Trials Boards
Jon Nicholl was appointed Director of the Medical Care Research Unit at the University of Sheffield in 1993 where he is Professor of Health Services Research. Before joining the University as a medical statistician he spent five years as a research associate at University College London working on road traffic accident prevention.
He was appointed Chair of the HTA Commissioning Board in 2005 and is also Chair of the HTA Clinical Trials Board. He has also served as Deputy Chair of the Medical Research Council's Health Services and Public Health Research Board and its Clinical Trials Board.
His main research interest is the evaluation of emergency and urgent first contact care and services, such as air ambulances, trauma services, chest pain care, and NHS Direct.
