HTA work with the National Clinical Directors
The National Clinical Directors oversee the implementation of the National Service Framework, which consists of long term strategies for improving specific areas of care within the NHS. The National Service Framework:
-
sets national standards and identifies key interventions for a defined service or care group
-
puts in place strategies to support implementation
-
establishes ways to ensure progress within an agreed time scale
-
forms one of a range of measures to raise quality and decrease variations in service across the NHS
The National Clinical Directors promote the National Service Framework within the NHS, working together with policy and delivery teams, clinical networks and the NHS management community.
The HTA programme has commissioned research to inform a number of the National Clinical Directors. This includes research into positron emission tomography imaging for selected cancers, for the National Clinical Director for Cancer (project ref. 05/01/01), and research into psychological therapies for borderline personality disorders, for the National Clinical Director for Mental Health (Health Technol Assess; 10.35).
