Standard calls for proposals
Agreed topics for research are advertised regularly in calls for research proposals. Commissioning briefs containing full information about each topic are drawn up to support the advert.
Research proposals submitted in response to calls are considered by the HTA Commissioning Board, made up of around 20 senior academics, which assesses the scientific merit, feasibility and value for money of the proposals.
Primary research submissions are first made in outline, with shortlisted research teams invited to submit more detailed full proposals for consideration by the Board. For evidence synthesis, full proposals are usually invited from the start.
