Conducting research
The HTA programme is a research commissioner. It does not carry out research itself, but commissions independent research teams to conduct research on its behalf.
However, it does encourage researchers wanting to conduct research on its behalf to consider how the scientific quality, feasibility and practicality of their proposal might be improved by involving service users as part of the research team.
INVOLVE
INVOLVE is an organisation dedicated to empowering service users to become more involved in research and development in the NHS. INVOLVE has produced useful guidance documents about how best to involve (and pay) service users as members of research teams, and for service users who want to get involved in research:
-
A guide to reimbursing and paying members of the public who are actively involved in research (pdf, 134kb)
Public Information Pack (PIP) March 07 - A guide for consumers
PIP is made up of four booklets and is for members of the public who are interested in getting involved in NHS, public health and social care research. The booklets have been produced by INVOLVE with support and advice from members of the public to help us ensure we cover the kind of information people need, when first getting involved in research. Please contact INVOLVE for a hard copy or email pip@invo.org.uk
-
PIP1 what is it all about (pdf, 670kb)
-
PIP2 getting started (pdf, 849kb)
-
PIP3 finding out more (pdf, 277kb)
-
PIP4 jargon buster (pdf, 257kb)
